The cameras that can spy on your gut

Wireless technology has enabled doctors to give patients a tiny camera in pill form. This camera pill is swallowed and provides a less invasive way of checking the digestive system.

Medical issues inside the small intestine have historically been hard to diagnose. Typical diagnostic tools known as endoscopes can only reach as far as the stomach or large intestine, depending on the point of entry.

The development of miniature cameras has enabled doctors to start using a technique called capsular endoscopy. Here the patient swallows a pill with the camera in.
